On the 13th December the Granton Baptist Church hosted PEP’s 2018 Christmas show; the hall was packed with up to 140 people who came along to enjoy the festive evening.

Dancers from the ‘Edinburgh Dance Academy’ kicked off the evening with a variety of routines. Their dancing was amazing and the girls and boys wowed the audience with their talent and inspired routines and costumes. They are always a delight to watch!

Next up were the ‘Cheyne Gang’. The Cheyne Gang is a community singing group based in Stockbridge for people with the condition Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and other chronic lung disorders. They sung their Christmas songs beautifully and the audience all joined in!

This year’s PEP Pantomime Presentation was ‘Tales From the Arabian Nights’; a play based around the story of Scheherazade, the Persian storyteller saved from death by her wondrous stories. Again PEP’s staff, volunteers and group members took on the roles. A last minute change meant that Ryan, the Community Navigator, took on the role of the King. He was amazing and his contribution meant that the ‘show DID go on!’ The show was really funny and kept the audience laughing from start to finish.

Additional entertainment was provided by the Literacy Group’s poem and fantastic live Middle Eastern music from Chris from Duo Hyperborea. Theodora also showed her talents playing music to ‘entertain the king’.

The evening was expertly compared throughout by Paul, PEP’s Chair of the Board. This culminated with the presentation of this year’s Volunteer awards. Charlie Marshall got the ‘Special Recognition’ award for his dedication to the Handyperson Service; while the ‘Volunteer of the Year’ award went to the amazingly deserving driver Shugs McAlonie.

The evening ended with the traditional raffle and a buffet for all, prepared by PEP’s dedicated staff and volunteers.
