PEP is continuing to work with catering social enterprise; ‘Scran Academy’ and ‘Prep Table’ and ethical food provider ‘Union of Genius’ (UofG) to ensure that hot healthy and safe food is provided to people most at risk during the Coronavirus outbreak.

On Friday, PEP drivers collected food from UofG to take to Scran Academy for packaging into individual meals. These meals were then collected by PEP staff and volunteer drivers and handed out to local people in the community with the help of our staff and volunteer passenger assistants….. only this time our cargo wasn’t people but delicious food.

During the last week this important service has provided over 1000 meals to those most in need! Well done to everyone involved.

A huge thank you to the local shops and businesses who have donated food and equipment to us to enable the meals to keep coming!

From Friday 20th March 2020; PEP has been working hard to help out local community projects to identify individuals and distribute aid parcels and hot food to vulnerable people in the local area.

Within less than a week, we were delivering to 150 people ensuring that they had access to a hot nutrition meal for every day of the week or a food parcel.

Our thanks to all the partners including, ‘Scran Academy’ and Prep Table.

Drylaw Rainbow club’ and Low Income Families Together’ (LIFT) were able to identify those in the area who would be most in need of the service.

Our picture shows our colleague Will from ‘Scran Academy’ taking possession of a precious cargo of Stovies and Onion Bhaji’s.

Our clubs may be postponed but our buses are still out and about! We have spent today working alongside 'Scran Academy', 'Prep Table' to provide and distribute meals and donations for isolated and vulnerable people within our community and those self isolating. Safety procedures are being strictly followed to adhere to food hygiene standards and practice.

We are working in collaboration with community groups to deliver free meals for vulnerable people in the North of Edinburgh.

Based on the current COVID – 19 (Corona Virus) situation; PEP received information from the Chief Officer of Edinburgh’s Health and Social Care Partnership.

The council has decided to suspend all their own day centres and step down commissioned day opportunities until further notice. This means that as of 17th March 2020, if you, or someone you care for, regularly attends a day centre, this will no longer continue. The Health and Social Care Partnership will of course review this decision regularly, as they learn more.

All PEP’s day-care services: The Day-care clubs: Monday Dunedin and MAGIC, Tuesday – Smarites, Thursday – Chummy, Friday – Cheery. The Neighbourhood Group Tuesday to Friday and the Saturday and Sunday Weekend Resources.  Also the Tuesday and Thursday Computer Class and the Tuesday Literacy sessions ARE ALL CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Please note that the office itself is remaining open at this time.

The Council also said:

“This will be a difficult time for many people and these are not decisions taken lightly however in the current evolving circumstances, we are struggling to justify bringing vulnerable people together. We cannot in good faith increase the potential risk of harm to you or your loved ones. For this reason, I am certain that you will understand and agree that this is the right decision to be taking just now, based on what we currently know.”

We will notify our service users of any updates. If you have any queries or need assistance please contact PEP on 0131 315 4466

Please stay safe and follow governmental guidance.
